Young toughs set upon elderly shepherd Jock Gray (Donald Crisp) and he dies and is interred in the city churchyard, but it's now a Challenge to Lassie, the faithful sheepdog who posts herself at his grave and refuses to budge. The townspeople, some impressed by her faithfulness, some shocked by a dog in a churchyard, begin to take sides, and finally a trial must take place to see if Lassie's faithfulness will be rewarded.
