The Lassie series had been broadcast for sixteen seasons on the CBS television network. In the seventeeth season, Lassie was suddenly a lone wanderer, like her previous contemporary, The Littlest Hobo. No explanation was given for what happened to the ranger format. At the opening of the season, Lassie and a collie named Duke started a family together, but the idyll didn't last long. Lassie gave her puppies away to good homes, one by one, and started out on her journey again. |
